Pom Klementieff (born 3 May 1986) is a French actress. She studied at the Cours Florent drama school, Paris. She has been in films such as Loup 2009, Sleepless Night 2011 and Hacker's Game 2015. She plays the Mantis character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (1999). Pom Klementieff was the child of a Korean mother, as well as an American-Russian father. Her father was a consul of Quebec City, Canada. Eugene Klementieff, a painter, was her grandfather. Because it sounds similar to the Korean words for "spring" or "tiger", her parents gave their daughter the name Pom. Klementieff lived in Canada for one year. Her family had travelled extensively as a result of her father's work. They resided in Japan as well as the Ivory Coast, before settling in France. Her father, who passed away from cancer at age 5, was her mother. Also, she was suffering from schizophrenia , and could not care for her kids. Klementieff was raised with her paternal uncle and aunt. Her uncle, who she described as "like [her] second father" passed away when she turned 18 as did her older brother, who was killed just seven years later, but this time on her 25th birthday. Klementieff was a student at law school for a short time following the death of her uncle to please her aunt, but did not find the academic option appealing. She was also an waitress in France as well as a salesperson. She started acting when she was 19and attended the Cours Florent theatre school in Paris. She was just two months into studying when she won an acting contest which gave her two years of class with the top teachers in the school. Klementieff's first professional acting job was the French independent film Apres lui (2007), playing the stepdaughter to the protagonist which was played by Catherine Deneuve. The filming process took three days. In one scene, she was supposed to push someone down the stairs but she fell down the stairs herself, and director Gael Morel used that scene in the film. Loup (2009) was her first lead role in a film. It's an French movie about a tribe in Siberian mountain reindeer herders. In the course of filming, she stayed in a tent, a long way away from the nearest village where temperatures dropped below freezing.
