Amy Carlson

Amy Carlson was raised in Glen Ellyn (Illinois) and was a part of her early years living in Chicago. Amy lived in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, until she graduated from junior college. The family also lived in the Middle East, where her parents, Bob (and Barb) taught at the American School. Amy has two sisters, Betsy and Lori, and a brother Joe. Amy has traveled extensively across Europe with her family , and independently. Her parents were teachers so they could enjoy every summer together in the campfire and travelling across the United States. In reality, they've spent time camping in every state other than Alaska. Amy went to Rwanda after the war in 1994 to aid relief efforts. Amy was a skilled actor in school plays and won writing contests. In high school, she excelled in athletics and was the first to participate in the ever 3200 meter relay for girls in the Illinois track. After sustaining an injury, she could return to theater and perform a variety of roles, including Lanford Wilson's "Fifth of July" and Wallace Shawn's film "Aunt Dan and Lemon". Amy graduated from Knox College in Galesburg (Illinois) as a cum laude graduate with an A.A. East Asian history, with a concentration in Theater. Following graduation, she moved to Chicago where she studied Improv at the Improv Olympic. Additionally, she studied acting at The Actor's Center. Shortly after graduation she was offered on a contract as an actress on the defunct soap series Another World (1964). The actress has been nominated for an Daytime Emmy Award in the category of "Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series". Her most memorable roles were of strong women, such as Alex Taylor (1999), Maggie Pistone (2000), Katie Owen (2003), and Linda Reagan (2003). Carlson lives in New York City, with Syd Butler as her husband and Bassist of Les Savy Fav. She is also the proprietor of Frenchkiss Records, an independent music label, and serves as part-owner. Amy is still working in the field of film and writing.
